Bray partnered with the Erie Community School District No. 1 to create a master plan that explored options for renovating and expanding its existing facilities. To aid in the district’s operation efficiency, an important component of the district master plan was to explore the district’s organization and pathway forward by reducing the quantity of district buildings. Additionally, projects would need to be completed while schools remained operational.
The district explored three options: adding a new middle school to the existing high school, adding an elementary school to the middle school, and adding a new elementary or middle school to the district’s Annex Building. The district decided on an addition of a new elementary school to the existing Annex Building.
Through the renovation and expansion of the existing Annex Building, the district re-purposed the building to serve as the new Erie Elementary School. The project replaces the existing, aging elementary school building while making use of an existing building asset within the district. The new elementary school facility serves grades preschool through fourth grade. The building provides much needed space for collaboration, art, music, library, STEM and Tiny Town, an elementary business simulation/learning space. The new building also includes a storm shelter, sized to house the student population within the building.
